To make the door fit the frame better instead of increasing the gap just chamfer the back edge of of the door.

2 year timeline for a new lock? Sounds like 2 years is up!!!

If you arent confident about your design you should not have sent LPL a xray of your lock. And from the livestream you dont even seem confident in the first place so that must mean he showed it to you off cam already.

Why didn’t these two just team up and make a criminally good lock to bring to market?

Considerations for DfM: Cover plate didn't need to be machined, 3D printed would have facilitated a plastic design that could be injection molded and cheap to make after the dies are created. A sheetmetal stamping would have worked as well. As things go with prototypes, I get that it's probably faster to mill out a piece of metal than it is to 3D print the plate. It's hours to make a 3D printed part, minutes to machine. In an actual production environment, there aren't idle CNC mills sitting around waiting for engineers to use them. And hours to 3D print is faster than days to have a local machine shop make one for you. The other option is to not make a plate at all, a sleeve interior to the hole would work as well. As far as eliminating the billet design, make the locking stucture separate from the exterior housing. I would think an exterior bezel design with features that hold the nested lock mechanism could be made by die casting.

If you could come up with an affordably manufacturable lock that LPL couldn't pick and gave his stamp of approval on, I think you'd have a best seller. Why not compete with Master?

He didn't pick your locks, he had access to the design and figured it our from there. Oh, and the gap between lock and door. If these locks were fitted tight on a steel door, and LPL had no design information, he would have gone back to being a lawyer. If he had less of an ego, he would have admitted that. But then.....he's a lawyer...

I have used the 'walking' method on my rear porch door with a gardening trowel when I was locked out as a kid. It's a fairly common issue on rear doors with too much gap and no cover.

I am waaay late but I paused your video at 0:45 to offer two points most likely covered in the two years since the publication of this video. 1st: Flipping awesome man, your first finished run stumped the local pro 1st rd and got high praise on quality from The Man🎉🎉. 2nd : The difficulty incured in the field as a one off compared to the format that your locks had been presented to the LPL is vast. I am not saying The Goat wouldn't have been able to prevail. I am saying the experience would have been waaaaayy diff. You gave him the key and a video etc. Irl, if anyone found it in the field they would be ignorant until knowledge developed.❤😊
